Laurence Chalou

Costume Designer

Having studied at the school at the Louvre and having also earned a degree from ESMOD, Laurence Chalou perfected her skills working with costumers at the Comédie Française, the Cartoucherie de Vincennes/ Théâtre de la Tempête, and at the Opéras of Strasbourg, Berlin and Dusseldorf. She also worked on numerous telefilms while also managing and directing fashion boutiques. She was the principal costumer for many film directors, among them: Roger Coggio (C’est encore loin l’Amérique, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Les Fourberies de Scapin), Claude Lelouch (Partir Revenir), Richard T.Heffron et Robert Enrico (La Révolution Française), Claude Berri (Ensemble C’est Tout), Alain Chabat, (Rrrrr, Le Marsupilami), Luc Besson (Adèle Blanc-Sec), Jean-Pierre Améris (L’homme qui rit), Frédéric Forestier (Stars 80), Pascal Bourdiaux (Fiston), Jean- Jacques Zilberman (A la vie), Guillaume Gallienne (Les garçons et Guillaume à table)…She created the costumes for films such as Le fils du Mékong and L’ïle (François Leterrier) and telefilms, among them Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Le Voyage de Van Gogh, Les Sorcières directed by Charles Brabant, L’énigme Blanche directed by Peter Kassovitz, L'Echappée Belle directed by Emilie Cherpitel, released in 2015. For several years Laurence has also created costumes for live performances, among them works by Bérangère Jannelle, La Périchole, Fra Diabolo, les pièces Amphitryon, 66 Gallery, Twelve Night, Le grand Z (on tour in 2015/ 2016) and by Dominique Brun, the choreographer of Sacre du Printemps (also touring in 2015/ 2016). For L’Autre défilé and then La Mêlée des Mondes, Laurence collaborated with the Compagnie DCA and Philippe Decouflé. She created costumes for Contact, Wiebo, Nouvelles Pièces Courtes and participated in the project entitled Tout doit disparaître [Everything must go] at Chaillot Théâtre National de la Danse in 2019. She began working with Amala Dianor in 2019 and created the costumes for his three most recent pieces, Wo-Man, Point Zéro and Siguifin.
